MARILYN D. YAP, R.N., M.A.N., M.H.A., Ph.D., Ed.D., F.P.C.H.A.



Dr. Marilyn D. Yap’s educational foundation was built inside the walls of the premier universities in the Philippines. She had earned the following degrees:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Far Eastern University

Master  of Arts in Nursing, Philippine Women’s University

Doctor of Philosophy (Highest Honor Summa cum Laude), University of Sto. Tomas

Doctor of Education, University of Sto. Tomas


Recognized as one of the most prominent names in the field of Nursing and Education, Dr. Yap is a Certified Auditor and Consultant for Medical Clinics on Quality Standard System. She has proven her nettle as administrator, academician and researcher. Proof of this are the many positions she has held, her teaching experience in a number of prestigious colleges and universities: Professor and later on served as Dean for 5 years of the Graduate School of University of Trinity; Professor and Dean of the College of Nursing for 5 years and later became the Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of St. Jude College Manila for 7 years.

She rose from the ranks and assumes various positions from being a Staff Nurse to Hospital / Medical Center to Executive Vice President. She was also the Director for Quality Management and Training of Asian Hospital, Inc.


Dr. Yap is a Registered Nurse not only in the Philippines but also in California, USA.


Awards have been accorded to Dr. Yap such as the Presidential Award from the Philippine Nurses Association, the Presidential Medallion and Leadership Awards from the Philippine College of Hospital Administrators, Presidential Award from the Philippine Society of Quality in Health Care (PSCUA), Award for Extraordinary Service from the Philippine College of Hospital Administrators, St. Antoninus of Florence Award from the University of Sto. Tomas, and the Governor’s Citation from the Rotary Foundation International for Community Involvement.

She was also a recipient of various scholarship grants: from the Association of Nursing Service Administrator of the Philippines (ANSAP, Grant for Research, 1997), from the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP, Grant for the Development of Best Practice Network Among ASEAN Countries, Singapore, 2002), from the International Nursing Foundation of Japan (INFJ, Nursing Activities on Infectious Diseases, Tokyo, Japan) and many others which led her to specialize in countries like Singapore and Thailand.


Dr. Yap has held various positions in professional, civic and religious organizations. She was the First Nurse President of the Philippine College of Hospital Administrators (PCHA), President of the Philippine Society for Quality in Health Care, President of the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA). Also, she was the past President of the Daughters of Mary Immaculate and Inner Wheel Club of Fairview.

Concurrently, Dr. Yap sits as Assessor for Philippine Quality Awards (PQA), and Malcolm Baldridge Award by the Department of Trade and Industry in Education, Health and Business, and Chairman of the Committee on Standards, Philippine Council on Accreditation in Health Organization (PCAHO) where she wrote for the Module on Standard for Quality in Health, a project co-funded by DOH and WHO.


Dr. Yap had attended numerous studies and trainings at an international scale. She was the Philippine Representative on a study mission on Establishment of Best Practice Network (Productivity and Standards Board or PSB, April 2001 in Singapore), the 2nd Workshop of Asian Productivity Organization (APO) Best Practice Network (02-RP-GE-DON-01-B) in Bangkok, Thailand to name some. She also had an observation tours regarding the Administration and Management of Nursing Services and Nursing Education System in different institutions in the United States namely: John Hopkins Hospital, Stanford University, Loma Linda University and Tampa Community.


Recognized as one of the country’s leading experts in Nursing and Education, Dr. Yap is one of the most sought after speakers and facilitators for Leadership, Quality and Nursing Development in various health care systems and higher education here and abroad. Her impressive academic background, extensive experience and voluminous research publications, which she had presented in national and international conferences, have reached, far and wide, the academia, professional organizations, and private companies. Her memberships and experience in local and international organizations have further enhanced her expertise. Words and works of Dr. Yap purposely touch, but not limited to, her interests such as hospital administration, Filipino nurses’ conditions abroad, quality standards in Nursing and Education, and the humane aspects of the Nursing profession.

Dr. Marilyn D. Yap, at present, assumes the following posts: Consultant, Health Care Delivery Systems in the Philippines, Consultant, Heath and Science Cluster, UST Graduate School, Professor III, UST Graduate School, Executive Vice President, St. Bernadette of Lourdes College, Chairman, Technical Committee in Nursing Education (TCNE), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Honorary Treasurer of Royal Institutes of Nursing – Singapore since 2000

Despite her colorful and heavy workload as an educator, practitioner, and field expert, Dr. Marilyn D. Yap is able to maintain an equally colorful and happy married life with Dr. Conrado M. Yap, a surgeon. They have two children who are now also professionals in their own right.
